As missionaries, we are sent where we are most needed. We cannot guarantee that you will be placed at the site that you indicate. Please indicate your site preference.

  • Possible Ethiopia Sites (July 2017)

VLM will not be traveling to Kenya in 2017. We hope to resume work in Kenya in 2018. We are also closely monitoring the situation in Ethiopia. If it is deemed unsafe to send VLM in 2017, we will not accept any volunteers.

Jimma: Up to six VLM may travel to Jimma in July 2017 to work as English teachers in various schools in the community. VLM may also participate in other ministries in Jimma as requested by the Daughters of Charity. Jimma is a city located in Southwest Ethiopia.

Bahir Dar: Up to six VLM may travel to Bahir Dar in July 2017. Ministries in Bahir Dar may include teaching English to strudents grades K-12, working with local teachers, and/or working in various roles in Women's Development Center. Bahir Dar is located in Northwestern Ethiopia.

  • Ackowledgement of Responsibility

I understand that the volunteer work I am applying for will entail time of preparation which will have components of Vincentian spirituality (in the tradition of St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac) and I am willing to participate in the Eucharist at least weekly with the community overseas. I commit to daily prayer and reflection and honest apostolic reflection with my community members.

I understand that I commit myself to additional participation in VLM when I return. This will include a follow up retreat in the fall (October 6-8, 2017). Your commitment will also include the following: speaking about the experience, procuring funds to help sponsor children or to enhance the ministry of the Vincentian community in Kenya and Ethiopia, preparing new VLM for the mission.
